Slime Care & FAQ

Welcome to the world of slime! Whether you're brand new to slime or already obsessed, here are our best tips to help keep your slime soft, stretchy and fun for as long as possible.

General Slime Tips for First-Time Buyers

Slime can feel a little different the first time you play with it - and that's completely normal!

The best way to play with slime is using quick stretches, folds and movements rather than slow handling. Slime also works best with clean, dry hands and a clean surface.

Some textures may naturally become sticky over time, while others stay fluffy and soft for much longer. Every slime texture has its own unique feel and personality.

What Slimes Are Best for Gifting?

If you are buying slime as a gift, you may notice that some of our slimes are described as "beginner friendly". This simply means they are usually easier to play with and maintain, even for people who are completely new to slime!

Some slime textures naturally become sticky over time and may occasionally need activator spray to bring them back to the perfect consistency. While many slime lovers enjoy these textures, they may require a little extra care and experience.

For first-time slime owners, we often recommend slimes made with instant snow. Instant snow creates a softer, fluffier texture and helps the slime stay less sticky for longer, making it easier and more enjoyable for beginners.

Our beginner-friendly textures include:

  • Cloud Slime
  • Cloud Dough Slime
  • Icee Slime

These textures are soft, stretchy and fun to play with, making them perfect for gifts, party favours and first slime experiences.

Of course, all of our slime textures are unique and amazing in their own way. Whether you love glossy slimes, crunchy textures, butter slimes or fluffy clouds, there is something for every slime lover to enjoy!

When Should I Buy My Slime?

For the best slime experience, we recommend purchasing your slime no earlier than one month before the gifting date. This helps ensure your slime arrives as fresh, stretchy and fluffy as possible.

Why Does Slime Change Over Time?

Slime is made using glue and activator, which work together to create that fun stretchy texture everyone loves. Over time, the activator slowly weakens and the slime can begin to soften and become sticky again.

This is completely normal for slime and does not mean it has gone bad.

Most slimes may start becoming slightly sticky after a few weeks, and after 1 - 2 months may need a little activator to bring them back to life. That's exactly why we include our Sticky Fix Spray Pens with orders!

Adding a small amount of activator every few weeks is the easiest way to keep slime feeling fresh and perfect.

What About Longer-Lasting Slimes?

Some slime textures stay stable much longer than others. Slimes made with instant snow, such as:

  • Cloud Slime
  • Cloud Dough Slime
  • Icee Slime

…usually stay less sticky for much longer and can last over 3 months with proper care.

However, many of these slimes contain beautiful colour swirls and layered designs that may naturally blend together over time, so we still recommend not purchasing too far in advance if they are intended as gifts.

Why Is My Slime Sticky?

Slime can become sticky for a few different reasons, especially during warmer weather or after lots of play.

We recommend washing and drying hands and surfaces before playing with slime, as certain hand creams, soaps, lotions and cleaning products can affect the texture. Hand sanitiser can also make slime extra sticky by deactivating it.

If you are new to slime, it may feel sticky at first if you move your hands slowly. Slime works best with quick stretches, folds and movements.

If your slime is still sticky, use your Sticky Fix Spray Pen:

  1. Spray a small amount directly onto the slime
  2. Mix and knead the slime well
  3. Test the texture
  4. Repeat if needed until it feels just right

A little goes a long way, so start with small amounts.

How Do I Stop My Slime Drying Out?

Slime can dry out if it is left exposed to air for too long.

To keep your slime soft and stretchy:

  • Always store slime in its container
  • Make sure the lid is sealed tightly after play
  • Keep slime out of direct sunlight and heat
  • Avoid leaving slime out overnight

Some slimes, especially Butter Slimes, contain air-dry clay. Because of this, they may naturally dry out faster over time and after lots of play sessions.

Why Is My Slime Shrinking?

Slime does not usually shrink on its own, but small pieces can stick to hands, tables or clothing during play. Over time, these tiny losses add up and make the slime appear smaller.

To help reduce slime loss:

  • Play on a clean smooth surface
  • Wash and dry hands before use
  • Use the slime itself to pick up leftover bits after playing
  • Store it properly straight after use

Snow-based slimes may shed a little instant snow during play, which can make them reduce in size faster than other slime types.
